
Norham is a lovely village near Berwick upon Tweed in Northumberland just on the border of Scotland. The village has a butcher, baker, general store/newsagent and gun shop. It also has one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in northern England - Norham Castle, which is cared for by English Heritage and is open to the public. There is also an old Church. The famous River Tweed runs alongside the village and provides plenty of fishing. Also Norham is part of the Coasts and Castles cycle route. Enjoy lovely walks in the country or along the beautiful beaches of Northumberland.
Berwick upon Tweed is approximately 10 minutes drive away and is a small medieval walled town with a variety of shops, restaurants, Pubs and museum etc. You can enjoy a lovely walk around the ramparts or defensive walls which surround the town centre.
There is a wide choice of shopping and leisure facilities available. Berwick has a golf course, sports centre and the Maltings art centre for theatre and cinema goers. There are also weekly street markets plus a farmer’s market, held on the last Sunday of each month. The East Coast Mainline runs through Berwick Railway Station and arrangements can be made to collect guests from the railway station if required at no extra cost.
The Scottish Borders hosts the Jim Clark rally every year in May - the Jim Clark room in Duns is a Museum dedicated to the life of Jim Clark - twice world motor racing champion in the 1960s.
Some of the towns in the Scottish Borders include Duns, Kelso, Coldstream, Galashiels, Melrose, Jedburgh, Hawick, Eyemouth, Peebles and Paxon where Paxon House & Country Park are situated and open to the public.
